Social Work

 

Samtse College of Education is renowned for teacher trainee that whenever I said I am a college student of Samtse, people said ohh; you are going to be a lopen (teacher). No, I am not a teacher but a social worker and they get confused. I am tired of saying I study at Samtse College but I am not in teaching course. People consider me lucky and appreciate my profession as a teacher from their view, yet they get perplexed when I explain about my course. When I first received the call from RUB saying that I got government scholarship at Samtse College I was thrilled yet hesitant after hearing the name of the course I was going to study for four years. What does a social work means to you?

I thought I am going to do social work for four years like we used to do in our school known as SUPW. However, after being in the college for about four years I got many definitions of social work. Social work means not just to work physically by picking up the papers or helping others in doing physical work. A social worker will be helping people to connect them or make people aware of whom they are going to approach for their problems and raise voice for them. A social worker will be a guide to help all people in need who don't have any idea about the rules or who don't know what they are going to do with their issues.  We are all born with a social worker quality but as a trained social worker we will be doing things professionally. I am glad that I will earn a degree certificate of social worker soon and this is all it matters because I am committed that even if I didn’t get my career as a social worker, I will be performing my duties wherever and whenever applicable.
