Some people are blessings, some are lesson

Some people come into our lives as blessings, and some come as lessons. I don’t know what I mean to others or how others see me, but for me, there are a few people whom I feel so lucky to have met, even though I may not have been able to do anything good for them. There are also people whom I wish I had never met. If I am ever the person someone wishes they had never crossed paths with, my sincere apologies go to them. Because, of course, there was a time when I was at my absolute worst. There was a time when I was selfish and didn’t know how to distinguish between what was right and what was wrong. As I grow older and the days pass like any other ordinary days, I find myself wishing to do good for people, be kind to them, be helpful, and, at the very least, be harmless. I get hurt, I gossip, and I say bad things sometimes, but at the end of the day, I genuinely wish everyone well. Sometimes, I introspect and realize that I have talked too much, especially about someone, and I in...

Why Do People Look Down on Others?

Why do people feel the need to look down on others? I don’t understand why people feel the need to make others feel small. We are often judged by the way we dress, the work we do, the cars we drive, and the things we own, but rarely by the kind of person we are. The car one drives, the phone one uses, and the brand of clothes one wears have somehow become measures of a person’s worth. Since when did the things we own become more important than the person we are? Every person is different, and we should never judge someone simply by how they look or what they can afford. Being from a middle-class family, I have seen people look down on those driving cheaper cars, wearing thrifted clothes, or simply not looking “high standard” enough for them. I can never afford to look down on people. And honestly, I can never bring myself to make allies with relatives simply because they are doing better financially or living a life that looks more luxurious than mine. Sometimes, I wish I had a magic w...

Behind every job is a Human Being

A job is a job no matter the position or grade. Everyone of us gets our job done irrespective of how much we are paid or how we are treated. The job gets our bills paid and we are grateful for that. But the fact is, no job comes easy. From the operational level to the Executive level, everything has a price to pay. Everyone is looking forward to our days off and hoping for a smooth day.  In this world, nobody is jobless, I am doing a job and everyone is doing their own job. From business owner to freelancer, it is never easy money. People are frustrated over the service provided, everybody complains about how the work is being delayed and people often feel entitled to shout at the service provider but how the service provider works with so much dedication and determination is often neglected. For people to be happy, their work needs to be completed in a minute without any hassle or chaos.  As a service provider but more importantly, as a human being, we are also angry a...

Choosing independence again

When I was a young girl, I was strong, harsh and at times, selfish. I thought I  knew what was best for me, and I was extremely strict with myself. I always believed I could do better, that I should be better and above all that, I should be independent.  I could talk back to people. I could make people shut their mouths. I confidently talked about becoming a doctor or engineer. Looking back, I realize I did not really know myself then. I was constantly regretting things I had done and trying to change myself. I aspire to be independent, getting my own things done, going alone and doing the things without really having to rely on others. However, over time, I have become someone who really needs someone to do something. It just feels so awkward to do my own things alone like going shopping, eating alone or getting a taxi.  I was waiting for a taxi and I realized why I was not able to come early and get the taxi myself rather than needing my husband to do it for me. ...

The illusion of when I get there

The life I am having now feels like a fast-forward version of everything that has happened in between. I thought maybe I should complete my studies, and then there would be something waiting for me. Life went on, grade by grade. I never failed a single grade and eventually graduated feeling fulfilled. But nothing really changed after graduation. The contentment remained the same. I thought life would be better and easier once I got a job. Imagine a life where you go to the office from 9 to 5 and get your salary credited at the end of every month. Fancy, right? I imagined the same too. People come to you with respect because of the role you hold. You get to meet and deal with so many different people, and yes, at some point, life did feel convenient. Yet, the contentment remained the same. There was never enough happiness in the job to make me feel fulfilled. Life somehow remained as it was from day one. Of course, there were some twists and turns along the way, but everything still fel...

Tomorrow, it is

Time goes on as if it has a deadline to meet. It goes on like a perfect plan moving so smoothly. I know life is also moving forward with time but I feel like I am stuck at a point in my life. At a point where I am in a dilemma which route to take. Which color to choose and which work to complete first. In the midst of so much pending works, I chose procrastination. I have been telling myself, from tomorrow for the longest time.  There is work from my workplace, the work of my family and work of my own and for many reasons, it is draining me so much. Sometimes, I feel like there is time, sometimes, I feel like I am running out of time and many a time I am just drained.  I am trying to figure everything out bit by bit but somewhere in between, I really question my worth. Am I really worthy of everything life is throwing at  me? I don't know what God has planned for me but at this point, I really need a push to move with the flow because there is no moving with the flo...
